Special Training Material available
for those who teach Sunday school or on Wednesday nights:
"THE THIN RED LINE"
PREFACE
The unsung heroes and heroines of the church today are those who, Sunday after Sunday,
Wednesday after Wednesday, stand and "teach the lesson" to adults and children.
But when each Sunday is over, when each Wednesday is said and done, who among those
heroes and heroines have not silently thought, "I could have done better."
Such silent thoughts are good; they reflect a holy discontent that can lead to the good,
better, and best lesson possible. Far too many of the Sunday and Wednesday teachers
in our church landscapes have the official material tossed at them as they're told,
"There's the class of the middle school boys, last door on the left." They
walk to the class as quickly as those condemned by Darius to the lions' den. Why do
we wonder that the burn out rate is so high? We give cafeteria workers more training
and orientation than we do those who teach our children at church.
"The Thin Red Line" will take you from Monday and
lead you all the way to Sunday, showing you how to wow 'em every time you speak. "The Thin Red Line" will not only show what to do, but
how to do it. In the process, you'll gain a new excitement as you begin to sense
that the lesson is growing inside you, growing to the point that you can't wait to deliver
the baby on Sunday. "The Thin Red Line" will
give freshness and excitement to your teaching, so that each Sunday is a brand new day for
you and your class.
"The Thin Red Line" is for new teachers as well as
those who've been in our church lions' dens for quite some time. Teaching, as you'll
see, is both a gift and an art. This manual focuses on the art; it can help you
paint a great work every time out.
"The Thin Red Line" was born out of a special
elective Sunday school class for real-life teachers taught in the summer of 1999 at County
Line Church. A special thanks to those real-life teachers who made the class the
enriching time that it was.
